What is Jaguar Special Vehicle Operations - The SV Badge

Added: 16 March 2020

Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations, also known as SVO, is precisely as it sounds; it is a special brand that features halo models, limited run collectors' editions, and high specification vehicles.

Based at the £20m Technical Centre in Warwickshire, the specialist manufacturing facility and Jaguar Land Rover's Centre of Excellence is home to a team of 200 automotive specialists, and the SVO's 20,000m2 headquarters has over 40 engineering inspection bays and a world class paint facility.

Re-launched in 2014, the SVO brand was set up to bring all of JLR's specialist, low volume products, and services under the one roof, and the SV brand does exactly what it says on the tin. Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations engineers and develops JLR's more specialised vehicles, versions that sit outside of the mainstream ranges, whether they be luxury or performance-focused.

The brand develops its vehicles into various sub-brands, each with its own distinct ethos. First of all, there is the SVR which was the first to appear, and is used for high-performance flagships; the second badge was the SV Autobiography moniker on high specification Range Rovers and the final badge was SVX, for Land Rover models to that have been engineered to offer the most extreme off-roading capability possible, but without compromising on-road competence.

These luxury vehicles include the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic, which is Land Rover's most luxurious, powerful, and sophisticated SUV ever. Then there's the Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition, which offers a purposely-tuned 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged Petrol engine, its exceptional performance is matched only by the vehicle's sophisticated design.

The Range Rover Sport SVR has been engineered using Land Rover's all-aluminium monocoque body shell technology and built on a strong, robust structure. Yet, the vehicle's lightweight architecture leads to greater performance.
And finally, the Range Rover Sentinel which is equipped with a Supercharged V8 Petrol engine and has obtained manufacturer's European Whole Vehicle Type Approval (EWVTA) and has been assessed against PAS301 for Civilian Armoured Vehicles.

The SV vehicles are available in an SV premium palette, which is an exclusive range of Ultra Metallic and Special Effect paints – in a choice of Gloss or Satin Matte finishes, or you can even opt for the Duo-Tone option for even higher levels of individuality. The special effects range includes Spectral paints, which feature Chromaflair to create a remarkable shift in tone, and Pearlescent paints, which use ceramic crystals to reflect light for dramatic colour depth.

SVO offers JLR buyers bespoke personalisation of individual models with unique interior and exterior finishes. As well as this, the brand has a hand in the development and production of limited-run specials such as the Jaguar F-Type Project 7. The company is adamant that future limited-run models will be built in the hundreds or thousands, rather than tens.

SV vehicles are extra special, and therefore require special attention to match. This means that the technicians at SV Specialist Centres receive enhanced training to ensure that these vehicles receive the best possible care.
